Homeland Security Institute

Welcome to the Homeland Security Institute, The HSI’s mission is to provide world-class professional education to leaders and practitioners in homeland security to ensure success during complex, multi-jurisdictional emergencies.

We will accomplish this by collaborating with top educational institutions and inter-agency stakeholders to provide our Soldiers and Airmen with world-class military education, professional credentialing (skill identifiers and joint qualified officer points), and the opportunity to receive advanced degree credit from our programs.

The Homeland Security Institute, in partnership with Harvard University’s Kennedy School (HKS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory (MIT-LL), leading institutions, and civilian stakeholders, provides the National Guard with a center of excellence in homeland security leadership and technology.

The HSI has developed programs of study, combining online and resident coursework, which provides participants with the tools and concepts to lead and make the right decisions during catastrophic events.

The HSI manages three academic courses, two with the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and one with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory, as capstone events for its programs of study. These capstone courses focus on emerging trends in homeland security leadership and homeland protection technologies.
