Open for Business

It has been a long wait, but the SFC Robert E. Rooney Unit Training Equipment Site at Camp Edwards, Mass. is now open for business.

Current and former members of the 379th Engineer Company, UTES employees, family members of Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Rooney and other Soldiers and Airmen of the Massachusetts National Guard attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 3, 2022, in front of the new $20 million, 69,044 square foot state of the art facility. Maj. Gen. Gary W. Keefe, the Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, presided over the event to commemorate the Grand Opening on June 3, 2022.

The UTES currently supports twenty Massachusetts Army National Guard Units and services approximately 5,000 pieces of military equipment.

According to the UTES team, the new facility will “lead by example” and maximize green technologies, ergonomic design, and internal and external communication technologies to sustain the highest organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

The new UTES facility is dedicated to the memory of Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Rooney, and a plaque is hung inside the front door that reads:
