TRADOC Commanding General Visits Massachusetts National Guard

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Gen. David Perkins, Commanding General, U.S. Army, Training and Doctrine Command, recently visited the Massachusetts National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, The Adjutant General, Massachusetts National Guard, greeted Perkins with his senior command group from the Guard.

The purpose of the command visit was to open dialogue about Massachusetts National Guard training and operations while exchanging information about Army/TRADOC initiatives that involve the Army National Guard and gain an understanding of issues that impact training and readiness.

After the command visit, Perkins met with U.S. Army War College Fellow students attending Harvard University, Tufts University and MIT, also at the Massachusetts National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters.

Perkins sat with the students during a two hour meet and greet and discussed TRADOC’s evolving mission over the years and the importance of developing future Army leaders.

Perkins challenged the war college students and stated: “Broaden your horizons and explain the Army’s role in the future.” He stressed change is inevitable and the Army must adapt with the advent of new technology. I am also here to empower you exploit new initiatives with fresh ideas,” he said.

Later in the afternoon, Perkins attended the U.S. Army’s “Spirit of America” at the TD Garden in Boston, one of the Army’s largest community outreach programs and is designed to allow the American public to interact and engage with today’s professional Soldiers and increase awareness of the Army’s rich heritage.

The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command was created on July 1st, 1973 under General William E. DePuy, who commanded a battalion in the 90th Infantry Division in World War II and led the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. Under General DePuy, TRADOC fundamentally transformed the Army into the best trained, equipped, led, and organized modern land power in the world.
